Rep. Sandlin (D-SD) Gets A Challenger

Aaron Blake from The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room is reporting Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) will be challenged by South Dakota State Rep. Blake Curd (R-SD).

Curd will need a lot of money. A race against Sandlin isn’t just a race against an incumbent, it’s a race against EMILY’s List, one of the most powerful special interests in the country.

When Sandlin won election to Congress in 2004, EMILY’s List bundled more that 8,800 contributions for a total of over $760,000. Through the Post-General Election FEC Reporting period, Sandlin raised a total of $2,655,459.32 from individuals.

So, nearly 29% of all the individual contributions Sandlin raised in the 2004 election came from the pro-abortion organization, EMILY’s List. If Sandlin finds herself in danger this cycle, you know who’ll be funding her reelection campaign.
